How the Wolf became a Dog

Public Television is rebroadcasting this series on how the modern dog, man’s best friend, came to be.  I found the first part fascinating in that it hypothesizes that as early man began to villagize, there arose the problem of waste management.  Dumps would line the outskirts of most villages and scavengers would come to these places searching for food.  Among these scavengers were wolves and those wolves that would not scare off when Man approached, out of curiosity or hunger, would over time come to trust Man enough to eat from his hand.  The rest was academic.

I found a parallel in that interpretation of history with our spiritual journey in this world.  Every Man approaches like a wolf, ruled by the instinct of sin, to places where we might get an easy meal.  Churches are the dump sites of doctrines and interpretations, nothing more than places where we can sustain our spiritual existence.  When God shows up some wolves flee as fast as they can for these fear that God will dominate them and take them where they do not want to go.  Others are less afraid, perhaps more curious, and they stay around until finally they understand that God does not mean to stamp them out, but in fact, is looking for a faithful companion that will help him with his duties and responsibilities.  The wolf then becomes the Dog.

Just some insight from the CG.  Check out the Common Ground in my pages.
